KEY TERMS TO KNOW:
Cellular
division is the process of a cell dividing into two
or more cells, called daughter
cells. There are many types of cell division,
but this website will only focus on two main types: Mitosis and
Meiosis. These
two types of cellular division can offer in eukaryotes. Mitosis and Meiosis are in fact similar but
very different indeed. At the end of Mitosis, the daughter cell is very
capable
of dividing again, but for Meiosis, the daughter cell can not split
again. The cell permanently transforms
into a gamete
and cannot divide again until fertilization. One cell division is
common for an
amoeba, which
is equivalent to reproduction. By cellular division, it allows
sexually reproducing organisms to develop from a one-celled zygote.
